HAMILTON AQUATIC CENTRE

NATATORIUM

The Hamilton Aquatic Centre serves as a public building that harmonizes the differing characters of the surroundings. It creates an engulfing space to retain the public while also encouraging the flow of traffic through the site to ease congestion at an urban scale.

The form helps maximize natural lighting in the aquatic center that would have been impacted by the high rise buildings to the north. In addition, the use of material pays homage to the city of Hamilton as it is historically known for steel manufacturing.

The main intent of this design is to create a transitional space that blends the contrasting character of the streets surrounding the site. The
building will act as a buffer zone with an aquatic space that connects the inside and outside programs.
